Submissions were evaluated and ranked by a global judging committee, comprised of IEEE Student Activities Committee and Membeship and Geographic Activities volunteers. The top 15 finalist projects which best meet the competition criteria Were selected and announced in April 2010.
The 2009, 2010 and 2011 IEEE presidents evaluated the top 15 projects and selected the final prize winners based on the results achieved and their impact on humanity, or, on a community. Sustainability, reusability, transportability of the results to other parts of the world, entrepreneurship, originality, creativity and leadership were important but secondary evaluation factors.
The announcement of the top 3 winners occurred at the IEEE Honors Ceremony on 26 June 2010, in Montreal, Canada. The Honors Ceremony is viewable on-demand at IEEE.tv.

2010 winners were invited to receive their awards on stage at the 2010 IEEE Honors Ceremony in Montreal, Canada.
The grand prize of $US10,000 and the distinction of being named “IEEE Student Humanitarian Supreme” went to e.quinox.
